dbt's It's 5 o'clock Somewhere Series
We're constantly evolving our product — and what better way to show it off than a virtual happy hour? Grab a beer or your drink of choice and join dbt’s very own Jay Bishop, Senior Solutions Architect on Thursday, November 5 at 3:00 pm ET as he shows off our newest features and releases.
November’s session takes on a timeless question: is it actually worth migrating your existing code into dbt? Jay gets asked this one constantly — honestly, it might be the question at this point. Every team with a drawer full of old stored procedures ends up wondering the same thing: is this worth doing, or is it going to eat a whole quarter?
Jay's going to walk through why the answer's changed. With dbt Wizard, instead of rewriting everything by hand, you point it at the stored procedure, it generates the model layers, and you check the output against the original with audit_helper to make sure it holds up. No big lift, no leap of faith.
Come hang out, bring your messiest stored procedure, and we'll talk through it.
What to expect?
A quick, casual session designed to fit into the end of your Thursday — not add to it.
- 15–20 minute demo. A dbt solutions architect walks through one of our most requested topics or features.
- Live AMA. Bring your questions about your current setup, or anything blocking your team from getting more out of dbt.
- We'll always cover the topics that matter most. Every session tackles the questions we hear most from the field — real problems practitioners are actually facing.
Meet Jay
Jay Bishop is a technology leader and data practitioner based in Marietta, Georgia, with a passion for making emerging technologies accessible and actionable for the teams around him. At Verizon, Jay championed the adoption of dbt to build high-velocity, high-trust data products — an initiative that also drove a platform refactoring now saving the organization six figures in annual compute costs. He brings that same builder's mindset to his role at dbt Labs, where he works directly with customers to unlock the full potential of modern data infrastructure and deploy the AI-ready foundations their businesses need to compete.
A fun fact about Jay in his words “I’m always experimenting with AI. My last project was propping up a private Apple podcast that I push NotebookLM audio too. Because why shouldn’t I be able to go for a run while an AI podcast host teaches me how to config dbt State?”
