One engine to rule them all: why Obie left the shire

Obie Insurance tore out their ELT infrastructure and rebuilt it from the ground up, using Apache Iceberg, the dbt Fusion engine, the dbt Semantic Layer, and AI tooling.

This session walks through the rebuild decision, the architecture we ultimately landed on, and the lessons from running in production. Also: the story happens to be told through a fantasy / Lord of the Rings lens. But the problems we solved with our modernized architecture were very real.
