Matt Karan

Matt Karan is a Senior Data Engineer at Obie with a decade of experience building data infrastructure from the ground up. He honed his craft in the visual effects and animation industry, beginning as a render and data wrangler and working his way into analyst and engineering roles at Animal Logic, DNEG, Technicolor, and ScanlineVFX, where he designed pipelines handling millions of daily events and built forecasting models that informed studio-wide resourcing decisions. In 2025, Matt pivoted out of post-production and into insurtech, joining Obie where he works with modern tooling centered around dbt Fusion to build reliable, scalable data systems in a fast-moving industry.
