Data Platform Engineering Manager, Careem

Niyazulla Khan Pathan

Niyazulla leads Data Platform Engineering at Careem, where he's spent over a decade working across massive, varied datasets. His experience spans from ads and real-time targeting at Flipkart to the full breadth of rides, food, and payments data at Careem. That range shaped how he designs and builds: data marts and warehouse architecture from the ground up, an in-house semantic layer to give every BI tool one consistent definition of the business, and strong governance systems, ranging from a policy-as-code access layer on Open Policy Agent to a TTL-based lifecycle system that reclaimed 10TB+ and 15,000+ stale assets. All the systems were stitched together from whatever mix of open-source and enterprise tooling actually fit the problem, cutting infrastructure spend by over 50% along the way. He's now extending that same rigor into GenAI: building a context layer that gives AI agents a clear, structured understanding of data ontology before they're trusted anywhere near production systems. He leads an exceptional team of engineers across multiple regions and also holds a US patent early in his career on automated root-cause analysis in DB systems.
