Chiel Fernhout is a Migration Delivery Engineering Lead at Datafold, where he builds the Datafold Migration Agent (DMA) - an agentic, LLM-powered engine that autonomously translates and validates data transformation logic across platforms. The DMA handles any-to-any conversion spanning SQL dialects, dbt projects, Python code, and legacy ETL/ELT platforms, iteratively refining its translations until data parity is proven between source and target systems.
His four-plus years at Datafold began in DevOps and cloud infrastructure before shifting to backend engineering, where he has spent the last couple of years focused on scaling the DMA. And with Agentic Engineering he is finally a true full-stack engineer.
Before Datafold, Chiel's career spanned ML Research, ML Engineering, Data Engineering, and DevOps roles. Outside of Engineering, Chiel loves Alpine mountaineering and bouldering.
