Join us 👋

Fishtown Analytics is the sole sponsor of dbt, and every person on our team uses dbt daily. Our team includes engineers building dbt and analysts who are dbt power users (and the best beta testers). We're working together to level up the analytics profession by applying software engineering best practices to analytics. If that mission feels exciting to you, maybe you should join us.

Senior Data Analyst

At Fishtown Analytics, our mission is to explore, facilitate, and promote the effective practice of analytics. Our clients include some of the highest growth venture-funded companies today, and we help them solve their biggest data challenges.

We’re looking for an experienced data analyst to join our team of analysts and engineers. The work is challenging, to say the least. In return, you’ll have the opportunity to work with one of the most talented data teams on the east coast and with some of the most exciting companies in the world. Sound like something you’re interested in? We’d love to hear from you.

Who we are

Fishtown Analytics was founded in 2016 by three veterans of the analytics software space. While at our last gig, we developed strong opinions on what tools, technologies, and processes companies should use when building their internal data teams. Fishtown Analytics is our shared experiment to put those ideas into practice. Specifically, we believe that:

  • Code, rather than graphical user interfaces, is the best tool for defining complex analytical logic.
  • Data analysts should adopt similar practices and tools to software developers: version control, testing, multiple environments, and continuous integration.
  • Critical analytics infrastructure should be controlled by its users as open-source software.
  • Analytic code itself — not just analytics tools — will increasingly be open source.

Who we’re looking for

A full stack data analyst with experience working for a venture-backed ecommerce or SaaS startup. You’ll be modeling data using our open source product dbt (getdbt.com), advising CEOs on the analytics behind their businesses, and mentoring analysts who work for our clients and here at Fishtown. A great candidate will be experienced in writing analytic SQL. If you’ve worked in Mode or Looker, Redshift or BigQuery or Snowflake, amazing. If you have experience using the command line and git, we definitely want to talk.

Fishtown Analytics HQ is in the City of Brotherly Love (#cheesesteaks), but for this role remote is OK.

In this role, you can expect to:
  • Model and analyze data
  • Interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets and translate them into product, marketing, and financial insights
  • Leverage various data warehouses, ETL tools and BI platforms for client projects
  • Maintain deliverables, projects, and timelines for your client engagements
  • Communicate findings clearly to a broad range of stakeholders
  • Refactor SQL code based on our best-in-class, in-house style guide
You are a good fit if you:

  • Have a solid understanding of data warehouses and business intelligence tools
  • Have 3+ years experience as a data analyst at an ecommerce or SaaS company
  • Can communicate clearly and directly
  • Are highly motivated to work autonomously, with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Are passionate about building the best version of whatever you’re working on
You have an edge if you:
  • Understand the difference between SQL that works, and SQL that performs
  • Have worked with dbt before!
  • Have experience writing analytical Python and/or R
  • Have experience with statistical modeling

At Fishtown Analytics, we are committed to hiring and cultivating a diverse team. If you are on the fence about whether you meet our requirements, please apply anyway!

Software Engineer (Full-Stack)

Want to ship code used by Lyft, SeatGeek, Casper, and 500 other fast-growing tech companies? At Fishtown Analytics, we develop software that helps data teams be more effective. Our products empowers thousands of data analysts and engineers and we care deeply about providing the best possible experience for them.

Our product, dbt, is used at hundreds of companies, and that number is growing fast. We’re looking for a software engineer to build cloud applications that make using dbt even more delightful and powerful.

Who we are

Fishtown Analytics was founded in 2016 by three former RJMetrics employees. While at RJMetrics, we developed strong opinions on how companies should practice analytics. Specifically, we believe that:

  • Code, not graphical user interfaces, is the best abstraction to express complex analytic logic.
  • Data analysts should adopt similar practices and tools to software developers.
  • Critical analytics infrastructure should be controlled by its users as open source software.
  • Analytic code itself — not just analytics tools — will increasingly be open-source.

If these sound like ideas you can get behind, we’d love to talk to you.

In this role, you can expect to:
  • Collaborate with the product and dbt core development team to develop our SaaS, dbt Cloud
  • Build the next generation of UI components and platform features that will make dbt more accessible, delightful, and powerful
  • Work with variety of programming languages, systems, and technologies (we primarily use Python, Postgres, Kubernetes, and AWS)
You are a good fit if you:
  • Have strong fundamentals in a variety of software development paradigms (e.g. object oriented, functional)
  • Understand how to make tradeoffs to ship useful features today without sacrificing long-term quality
  • Value interacting with end-users and deeply understanding their needs
  • Are highly motivated and able to work autonomously
You have an edge if you:
  • Have worked on a small team developing and deploying a SaaS product
  • Have direct experience scaling out data platforms, especially with Kubernetes and/or AWS

At Fishtown Analytics, we are committed to hiring and cultivating a diverse team. If you are on the fence about whether you meet our requirements, please apply anyway!
