Three barriers to effective data communication

Nadja is a Data Scientist at Education Perfect, an EdTech company helping over 1 million students worldwide with online learning and assessment. In her four years at EP, Nadja has moved from customer support, to internal systems development, to a founding member of EP’s Data & Insights team. She works across the whole data stack, helping all areas of the business to better incorporate data into their decision making processes. In her spare time, Nadja loves to read and cook.

Everyone knows that having consistent data definitions is important, but how do you do it? And once you’ve done it, how do you make sure everyone knows how to use them and where to learn more, especially in an ever-growing company?

After 12 years of confusing terminology and wonky spreadsheets, the team at Education Perfect decided to properly define their key data points, enabling them to simplify the interactions between their team.

In this talk, Nadja will take you through her journey of trying to balance accuracy with simplicity, where they’ve landed, and where they want to go next.
