Announcing: The Second Round of Our Foundry Program!

About this time last year, dbt Labs made the decision to offer an apprenticeship program, known as “The Foundry Program”.  This program helped pave the way for opportunities within both the analytics engineering and software engineering industry.  Fast forward to today, and we have hired both of the apprentices within our analytics engineering program. Our software engineer apprentices are still participating in the program and will continue to do so for the next 6 months.

We are thrilled to announce that we will be opening up another round of our analytics engineering Foundry Program.  The program will accept 2 apprentices who are interested in getting into the analytics engineering field. Who better to train you than us!? This program is designed to train and prepare you for a career as an Analytics Engineer and support your next steps.  This could be either with the dbt Labs team or through an introduction within our network to help you find a role in the field.

I had the pleasure of speaking with our two Inaugural Analytic Engineering Foundry members, Sam Harting and Wasila Quader.  They shared how this program has impacted their career goals, what they enjoy about their new roles, and how they are liking our culture here at dbt Labs. Here are some of their insights:

What made you choose to change your career path and apply with dbt Labs for our apprenticeship program?

“I had been introduced to the data industry as a whole in my previous career and found it really interesting. I started making moves towards shifting into data practice within my organization but was keen on finding another experience. When the apprenticeship was shown to me by someone I know at dbt Labs I couldn’t believe my luck! I had heard such great things about the company and it was the exact thing I needed to make the career change I was seeking.” - Sam Harting, Associate Analytics Engineer at dbt Labs

“I was really attracted to dbt Labs as a company. I got the impression that this was an organization that highly values innovation and doing things the right way. I was excited to learn in that kind of environment.” - Wasila Quader, Associate Analytics Engineer, dbt Labs.

What did you value most about your experience with the Foundry Program?

“I loved learning about analytics engineering! Everyone was incredible in supporting us and answering our questions.” - Wasila Quader, Associate Analytics Engineer, dbt Labs.

“I really value the dedication of the team to provide me the education and experience I needed to prepare me for a new field.” - Sam Harting, Associate Analytics Engineer, dbt Labs.

What is your favorite part of being part of the dbt Labs team?

“It is genuinely unlike any company I have ever been part of before. Our values are great but my favorite one is “profits are exhaust”. It is a breath of fresh air to be on a team that’s first priority is delivering a quality product to our customers. It’s not that revenue isn’t important or that we never talk about, it’s just not the only thing we talk about which felt true in many of my previous positions. This organization just seems to have its head and heart in the right place.” - Sam Harting, Associate Analytics Engineer, dbt Labs.

“I was able to find something that I truly enjoy doing (analytics engineering) at a company that actively works to live by its values (my favorite one is “we are human”).Everyone here is genuinely nice to work with.” - Wasila Quader, Associate Analytics Engineer, dbt Labs.

With outcomes like this, how could we not do it again?  We are so excited to offer this opportunity to more people and help them achieve their career goals in the exciting world of Analytics Engineering!
